This is your opportunity to make a great first impression!
You are seated at the Interview Table, virtually or otherwise. Initially you may be asked to review aspects of each position in your resume. Speak to the skills, responsibilities, and successes. You will be provided the opportunity to ask questions that you have PREPARED. You will also have an opportunity to summarize and highlight your job fitness and readiness. Be the closer!
Interview
Plan for at least an hour. As many interviews are now conducted virtually, take sufficient time to familiarize yourself with the platform be it Zoom, Webex, Google Meets, etc. Minimize the possibility of technical glitches by ensuring your wi-fi is connecting properly and laptop or mobile phone is sufficiently charged.
Smile, introduce yourself and thank the interviewer for the opportunity.
Sit up straight, think positive thoughts, and await the first instruction.
Breathe.
Speak to your skills, responsibilities, and successes. Be confident.
Q & A Time
Recall the interview questions that you reviewed in the PREPARE phase.
Be confident in your responses.
Frame your answers in a positive light.
Think before you speak as it is advisable to pause then formulate a reply.
Now You Are the Interviewer
You will be provided the opportunity to ask (prepared) questions. Recall your company research? Ask relevant questions about the employer and the position. It is acceptable to take notes.
End of the Interview
Basically this is an opportunity to summarize and highlight your job fitness and readiness. Be the closer. Repeat the qualifications the interviewer stated that the ideal candidate possessed and state that you too possess those qualifications. State that you would be an excellent fit for the position and company for ‘X’ reasons. Keep it real!
